Dr Stellios Plainiotis is the Founder and CEO of NEA◦POLI and a recognised leader in sustainable design. His work focuses on the long-term impact of the built environment on human health, society, climate change and land use. Over a 25-year international career based in London, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul and Beijing, he has advised clients across Asia, Australia and Europe.
He co-authored one of the earliest guidebooks on sustainable design in China, Design for Sustainability (Ji and Plainiotis, 2005, ISBN 7112083907), which was later used as a teaching text at Tongji University in Shanghai and the University of Nottingham in the UK.
Dr Stellios has delivered consultancy services for more than 100 projects. Selected work includes the Crystal Palace Park Masterplan in London, the American University of Beirut with Zaha Hadid Architects, Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2, the Doha International Airport Extension, the PETRONAS Headquarters in Kerteh, Merdeka PNB 118 in Kuala Lumpur, and the Paya Lebar Central Masterplan in Singapore.
He holds two Master’s degrees from The Bartlett, University College London, in Environmental Design and Engineering and Virtual Environments, as well as a PhD in Computing and Mathematics from the University of Greenwich, where he specialised in Computational Fluid Dynamics on scholarship.
He currently serves as the Honorary Consul of Greece in Malaysia. In 2017, he received the Best Sustainability Business Leader award at the Europa Awards for Sustainability in recognition of his leadership in the field.
