The environmental engineers of NEAPOLI have simulated the dispersion of atmospheric pollutants from Tianjin using HYSPLIT4 Lagrangian Dispersion Model and a combination of archive and 84-hours forecast meteorological fields from the Global Forecast System Model (GFM). The results indicate that weather conditions will favour dispersion of atmospheric pollutants towards the Southern provinences of Manchuria in China, mainly Liaoning. The plume will reach Jilin Provinence in the early hours of Saturday the 15th. Although some relatively small areas of North Korea near the borders to Liaoning will be affected, simulation results indicate that air quality in South Korea will not be affected. Read more HERE.
