NEAPOLI was appointed by Meinhardt UK to support the team led by Foster + Partners on the New Doha International Airport (NDIA). The design is based on the expansion of the existing Hamad International Airport (HIA) and will include expansion of the existing processor building, the addition of two new terminal concourses D & E and a link to the new Doha Metro Red Line. The terminal annual capacity will increase from 30 to 53 mppa and the completed terminal will be more than 1 million square metres.
In order to ensure that the proposed design achieves acceptable occupant thermal comfort and energy heat balance, NEAPOLI carried out a thermal simulation to establish and analyse the peak cooling load and thermal comfort of the NNE Garden area of the New Doha International Airport.
For the simulation, the geometry of the model was developed based on the CAD drawings provided by Foster + Partners and detailed using MEP and building fabric information provided by Project’s Mechanical & Electrical Engineer Meinhardt.
