Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) appointed NEAPOLI in 2010 to lead the Energy and Environmental Design of their new Headquarters in Shah Alam.
The project is sited at the edge of a manmade lake, with a total gross floor area of 320000 sq ft sprawled over 1.84 hectares. It is an array of four office blocks varying in breadth between 10 to 15 meters altogether sheltered by an ascending green roof. The project gives back to the public the green area borrowed for the development in the form of the green rooftop, open for civil use. A large portion of the cooling demand is supplied by a unique solar refrigeration system comprising of 5000 evacuated tubes with a total solar collector area of 1200 m2. Natural light enhancement systems, rainwater harvesting and wastewater recycling make the project an international benchmark of energy and environmental performance. Since 2017 the completed building accommodates the new Corporate Offices and a range of retail businesses.
Through rigorous energy optimisation by NEAPOLI, PKNS HQ achieves energy intensity as low as 79 kWh/m2/year, which suggests 65% reduction against typical commercial building in Malaysia (220 kWh/m2/year). It has received Platinum Rating with international LEED certification body, the highest such recognition possible. It also received 2 Platinum Certifications with Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI) for the retail and office components. In 2018 PKNS HQ was named the most environmentally sustainable large office building in the ASEAN region receiving the prestigious ASEAN ENERGY AWARD.
