Airside Transit Hotel, KLIA2

Selangor, Malaysia

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad employed NEAPOLI to lead the Energy & Environmental design of the Sama-Sama Airside Transit Hotel within the satellite Building of the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2.

The 70-room Sama-Sama Hotel houses a lobby and a full-service restaurant. Being the world’s first Airside Transit hotel to achieve Green Building certification. The hotel proves that sustainability principles and luxury are not mutually exclusive.

The hotel uses 50% less energy than a similar hotel constructed to meet the building code. Displacement Ventilation mode at the lobbies and restaurants means up to 60% cooling loads reduction and optimum air quality. Variable-speed vent hoods in the kitchen of the restaurants  adjust to meet the ventilation needs of the space, typically operating at only 25 percent of their full capacity. Solar Thermal panels provide 50 percent of the hotel’s water heating needs. As a backup hot water source, an energy-efficient heat-pump system draws heat from ambient air and utilises it to heat-up water in much the same way as an air conditioner or refrigerator.

The hotel also uses 35 percent less water than a comparable building. Low-flow toilets that use 4.5 litres flush and low-flow faucets all contribute to water savings.
