Desaru Coast Convention Centre Receives LEED Certification

Desaru Coast Convention Centre has received a LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.

  1. Implemented a sophisticated lighting system in the building, thus illuminating a typical conference room using 20- 45% less energy.
  2. Non toxic and low VOC materials were used in all interior finish materials, adhesives, sealants, wall fabrics and wall carpet on movable sound wall partitions.
  3. Implemented a successful waste management plan that recycled 75% of all construction waste.
  4. High-efficiency hot water and air conditioning systems controlled via a computerised event based building management system.
  5. Exemplary performance for providing a higher level of open space coupled with the protection of native vegetation, natural rock outcroppings and the Desaru Coast during and after construction.
  6. Provision of bicycle storage and special parking for electric and low emitting vehicles
  7. Composting all food waste.

Desaru Coast Convention Center is the only convention centre facility in Malaysia to be awarded LEED Certification.

The average monthly environmental impact of this commitment by Desaru Coast on this Convention centre is to generate more than 15,000 kg of CO2 offset, the equivalent of planting more than 2,100 trees.
